WHAT HAPPENED TO BUSINESS
WISDOM?
It has been stated, and restated,
by the small business community, that small firms generate over
80% of all new jobs in the United States, and over 80% of all
replacement jobs. Small firms have also produced 24 times more
innovations per research dollar than large firms. Yet these businesses
have a high rate of failure during their initial growth years.
Why?
Assuming adequate financing
exists, the often generalized response is that the small business
failure was caused by a lack of strong management skills. While
this management skills deficiency may be corrected through education
and training, it is not the cure all that educators and trainers
would have you believe. Smart, well trained, mangers fail too!
The typical metropolitan telephone
book yellow pages list dozens of different categories of consultants
with specialized knowledge and skills who are capable of helping
a small business solve managerial problems and to maximize economic
opportunities. There is no denying that when it comes to seeking
the systematic analysis of facts in a specific area, engaging
a consultant is warranted and advised. On the other hand, there
is often the danger that the consultative knowledge is misapplied,
or was not necessary because there was "another way."
A better way!
An individual after working
at one of the top management firms decided not to continue in
the career. His legacy to Business Guidance USA was this statement.
"I never met a group of people who had so much brilliance,
and so little wisdom."
It is said that every ten
years there is a complete turnover in business knowledge, yet
wisdom does not turn over. Wisdom implies sound and discerning
judgment, and is extremely applicable in business affairs. But
how does one gain business wisdom? Two ways. Either through experience,
a slow and agonizing process, or by the transfer of the wisdom
of others. The transfer process is best illustrated by the corporate
board of directors. Still, most small to moderate sized businesses
cannot assemble a top notch board of "outside" directors
to serve on a permanent basis, which is a costly expense burden.
But as stated above, "there is another way!"
Business Guidance USA has
the network to "hold your business hand". We aid in
assuring that you are getting your "lucky breaks."
We present the diverse viewpoints needed before making an important
decision. Sometimes our service is as simple as having someone
to talk to on the telephone. Business Guidance USA is like having
your own "outside director", except part-time.
Business Guidance USA is wisdom!
