BGUSA - How it all started!
During mid-1968, two prominent banker businessmen hired Sam Gallo, our founder to "straighten out" two businesses that had loans with a local bank that were in a questionable collection status. At the time, Sam was the President of the mortgage subsidiary of a 1.3 billion dollar life in force life insurance company. The life company was moving to Dallas, Texas and Sam was not of a mind to move.
The two companies were sucessfully reorganized, so, Sam was engaged by the same gentlemen to "straighten out" more companies. As the years went on, the types of businesses that Sam reorganized were numerous and his client base expanded. Sam eventually became a trustee in banckruptcy, starting with reorganizing a cemetery as his first case. Later after sucessfully reorganized that cemetery, he went on to reorganize four more cemeteries.
As time went along, Sam discovered that his skills were general and not specific. He was not a consultant, but a counselor! "Consulting is essentially an organized effort by specially trained and experienced people", so said Hal Higdon, The Business Healers, Random House. Sam was a generalist! He concluded further that there were plenty of consultants with specific knowledge and skill to solve assigned problems, but what was lacking among the majority of those consultants he came in contact with was a lack of wisdom in their knowledge application.
Wisdom implies sound and discerning judgement, which is the operation of one's mind, involving camparison and discrimination, that causes one's mind to take knowledge of values, or specific consultancy facts, and mentaly formulate the facts into inter-personal and entity relations to achieve a sucessful outcome. The preceeding sentance is a mouthful. Let's use an illustration.
A "consultant" issues recommendations to the owner of a business indicating that if followed, profits will rise a marvelous percentage. The "business guidance counselor" lays before the owner a more subtle analysis showing that, among other things, achieving the profits goal will require the owner to up his travel commitments 300% at a time when he and his wife are raising three young todlers at home. The owner decides the new plan is not worth it, and decides for a more modest increase in profits. Who knows, perhaps a bankruptcy was averted by the small application of a bit of wisdom.
It has been said that every ten years there is a complete turnover in business knowledge. Wisdom does not turnover! Business Guidance USA is a team approach to wisdom. Using facts optained from competant advisors, we present the diverse viewpoints needed to help you make a good business decision. It was January 9, 1987, that the concept of Business Guidance was formally incorporated as a business by our founder. On January 1, 2005, the BGUSA was aquired by Don LaBauve, CPA. Don has served on the BGUSA team for some 30 years.
